Why Prior Verification Is Required for Browser-Based Application
Thank you for your continued support.
We would like to share the following important notice regarding the deployment of web-based (browser-based) applications.
In recent years, the maritime industry has increasingly adopted web-based applications to improve operational efficiency. However, there have been cases where, upon deployment, such applications did not function as expected due to incompatibility with the vessel’s IT environment.
Web applications are often misunderstood as requiring no verification simply because they do not need installation. In practice, however, stable and reliable operation requires thorough and multi-faceted validation, including but not limited to the following:
・Browser compatibility:
Confirmation of the browser type and version installed on onboard PCs
・Framework dependencies:
Verification that the application’s required operating environment aligns with onboard device specifications
・Communication and network configuration:
Confirmation of system behavior under satellite bandwidth limitations and verification that required communication ports are properly configured
Therefore, when introducing new systems or services, even web-based applications require prior verification of the operating environment and testing on actual onboard equipment.
We appreciate your continued trust and support of ORCA.
