Deficiency Indicated by PSC on Using Windows7 PC

Thank you for your continued support.

We would like to inform you of recent cases that several vessels still using Windows 7 PCs were pointed out in Port State Control (PSC) of the USA as deficiency, in regards to the cyber security requirements defined in ISM code.

PSC indicates this deficiency as "continuing to use an operating system that had already reached the end of its support."  We’ve also been informed by vessels of such cases.

While it was not surprising that the operating systems of vessel PCs could be pointed out of such deficiency, the above mentioned cases suggest that similar situations will only increase in the future.

Therefore, please be cautious if there are old PCs remaining on your vessels by checking the following points:

Pay attention to the support deadlines for the operating systems PCs used for communication and operations:

 ・Windows 7: Support ended in January 2020

 ・Windows 8: Support ended in January 2023

 ・Windows 10: Support ongoing

 ・Windows 11: Support ongoing

If there are PCs on board with operating systems that have reached the end of their support, promptly arrange for replacements or disconnect them from the vessel's network and use them as standalone units.

ORCA provides a list of vessel PCs at the beginning of each year. Please use it to help formulate your vessel PC replacement plans.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.

Thanks & best regards.
