About SPAM protection policy of ORCA E-mail service

Today, SPAM mails have increased much more seriously than ever before. Consequently, for Ship E-mail users, it is inevitable to concern about such a situation which heavy satellite communication expenses have been claimed by receiving SPAM mails.

We ORCA possess the following policy to deal with these SPAM mail problem, therefore, we appreciate if you understand and cooperate our services.

AA.ORCA E-mail service has a block program against SPAM mails by installing Anti Virus + Anti SPAM function. For instance, in July 2006, our Email Server deals with over 4000 mails everyday. Within those mails, approximately 1000-1500 mails have been blocked by these functions as virus mails or SPAM mails.

BB.As for the setting policy of ORCA Anti SPAM, we apply a keyword which surely can be judged as a SPAM email in the text URL(which mainly starts with http://), mail address, and IP (Internet Protocol) address in spite of SPAM filter of Bayes method (self-study method) not to block business mail by mistake. Therefore, the judgment is looser than the usual SPAM filter. Nevertheless, we would like you to acknowledge this is the policy to secure the certainty for the communication by email in ship.

CC.As the contact address for SPAM mail,  is prepared. If you receive any SPAM mails on the ship, please forward those mails to this E-mail address. In that case, any explanations are not needed. We will analyze the content, and utilize it for building a rule in order to block SPAM.

DD.To our regret, this SPAM filter can prevent only already-known SPAM, not for new kind of SPAM. Consequently, we would like you to understand that it is impossible to block all SPAM physically.

EE.On the other hand, it is an effective method to change ship’s E-mail address for decrease the number of SPAM emails. For the ships that are troubled seriously with SPAM, we recommend that you examine the change of ship E-mail address annually.

FF.Generally, ship’s E-mail address is [ship name @ domain name]. However, it is much effective against SPAM mails if you put alphabet and numbers randomly after the ship name.

GG.ORCA helps to change of the E-mail address of ship at any time. As for the change of the E-mail address, registration on the ORCA side and the setting change of the ship (2 places in setting) are required. The manual is prepared, so please feel free to ask us.

HH.When the ship’s E-mail address is changed, please complete the contact to each person under your (customers’) responsibility. For the prevention from SPAM emails, we will not send an error notification when E-mails are sent to the old account.
